Shane Barrett says Dublin hurlers can take inspiration from Cork

Dublin U21 hurler Shane Barrett says that his side can take inspiration from Cork's victory over All-Ireland champions Tipperary last weekend in Thurles.

The Rebels were four-point winners over the reigning Munster champions and featured a number of top young performers like Conor Lehane, Luke Meade and Shane Kingston in their victory on Sunday afternoon.

Speaking to Newstalk Sport's Oisin Langan at the launch of the Bord Gais Energy U21 Championship, Barrett said that the players will have gotten a boost watching the match.

"The younger lads on our team can take confidence from that," he said. "It's a young team they've got out there. They were able to put it up and beat the All-Ireland champions.

"It's a massive boost for the lads watching on."

Defending Leinster champions Dublin face Kilkenny in championship opener, but Barrett says his side are relishing the challenge.

"We take confidence going in as Leinster champions. Not many teams can say that. You want to face the best teams so we may as well start off with the best teams.

"Nowlan Park isn't new to most of the lads, we've played them in minor a few years back and we bet them down there as well. We'll take confidence from that."
