Seamus Power leads the Irish charge at the Honda Classic at PGA National in Florida.
He shot a two-under first round of 68 which included an eagle, three birdies and three bogies. He also navigated the infamous "bear trap" stretch in one-under.
Padraig Harrington and Graeme McDowell both posted two-over rounds of 72.
The Dubliner's mixed bag included three birdies, three bogies and a double-bogey although the 2015 winner closed out his round with a morale boosting birdie.
McDowell too had a similar run of scores to the Dubliner although the home stretch is where most of the damage was done to his card.
Cody Gibble and Wesley Bryan lead the way on six-under after shooting rounds of 64.
Martin Kaymer heads the European scores and sits one shot off the lead after finishing with back-to-back birdies.
