Seamus Power in excellent position at Wells Fargo Championship

It's been a promising tournament so far for Irish golfer Seamus Power as he jointly shares the overall lead at the Wells Fargo Championship.

The Waterford native, who represented Ireland in the Men's Olympic golf tournament alongside Padraig Harrington, had finished his opening round two shots off the lead in North Carolina.

And a solid second round effort has left Power right in contention as the tournament hits its halfway stage.

He carded a 1-under 71 to move onto 4-under for the tournament.

Power managed birdies on the 4th, 6th, 12th and 14th holes and at one point held the lead on 7-under.

But he also bogeyed the 9th, 15th and 17th holes to move onto 5-under, which he currently shares with USA's Billy Hurley who carded a 69.

Behind them, there is a 10 way tie for third on 4-under, although not all of those challengers have completed their second rounds.

Among them is ovenight leader Francesco Molinari, who bogeyed two of his first four holes on his second round to slip back behind Power.

Shane Lowry and Graeme McDowell are also involved in the action.

The latter equalled his opening round score of 71 to sit 2-under overall, three off the leaders.

Meanwhile, Lowry, who made a poor start on Thursday, is currently 5-over overall through six in his second round and is four shots outside the projected cut mark for the tournament.

World No 1 Dustin Johnson is on 2-under through six in his second round.
