Stoke City striker Saidio Berahino has claimed the only way banned substances could have gotten into his system was if he was spiked.
Speaking on the BBC's Football Focus, he said: "No one knows that story. I don't really want to go into it. All I can say is I didn't know how it got into my system. We had specialists that analysed me and took my hair follicle for six months. I've never taken drugs in my life. Nobody in my family takes drugs. there was nothing in my hair. There was no cannibis, there was no cocaine, no MDMA."
"It's just one of those things, you go on a night out, you don't know who you are around and there are people who are out to get you. Of course, I was in a nightclub, so I hold my hand up for being irresponsible.
"From then on it all crashed down. To this day, I still cannot understand who would want to do that to me," he added.
Berahino was suspended for eight weeks earlier this season. He eventually moved to Stoke City after falling out with West Brom after they previously rejected his transfer request.
He goes on to admit in the interview that he came to "hate" the place he grew up at.
