Peter Stringer to depart Sale Sharks

Former Ireland and Munster scrum half Peter Stringer will leave English Premiership side Sale Sharks at the end of the season.

The 39 year old Cork native has been at Sale since 2015, having joined them after two years at Bath Rugby.

Sale revealed his departure in "a tribute to outgoing players" by the club's director of rugby Steve Diamond.

He paid tribute to Stringer and former Wales scrum half Mike Phillips who had already announced his retirement at the end of this season.

"They have been great for the club, the squad and the supporters. Nearly 200 caps between them and have helped their team mates and the youngsters coming through so much," said Diamond of the duo.

Diamond also added of the outgoing players as a whole: "It's always hard to say goodbye to players at the end of the season and I am sure the lads who are leaving will if they are looking to get fixed up at other clubs will do so quite easily."

While Phillips will retire, there is no confirmation regarding Stringer's future if he intends to keep playing or would consider whether to call it a day.

Last season, Stringer was named Sale's Player of the Season and last November had suggested that he wants to "keep playing as long as I can".
