Oosthuizen and Stanley lead the way at Sawgrass

The Stadium course at Sawgrass continued to bring the drama on Friday after a number of high-profile players missed the cut ahead of the weekend.

World number five, Jordan Spieth, was off the boil for much of his round. Despite finishing with a long-range birdie on the difficult 18th, he has the weekend off after posting four-over for his opening two rounds.

His day was largely summed up when he completely duffed a green-side chip only to hole his second attempt late on.

Ireland's Shane Lowry also missed the cut after posting six-over for his two rounds while Graeme McDowell will be around for the weekend after signing for a topsy-turvy second round of 72 to leave him on one-under for the tournament. Rory McIlroy is a shot further back on even par.

The lead is held by South Africa's Louis Oosthuizen and Kyle Stanley of the US who sit on nine-under and two shots ahead of the field.

The iconic 17th hole saw 29 water balls on Friday as the players struggled with the difficult wind conditions surrounding the famous island green.

The surprise round of the day was arguably Vijah Singh's four-under round of 68 which leaves him only three shots off the pace. The 54-year-old rolled back the years posting five birdies to keep the leaders within striking distance.
