Olympic champion suspended for one-year by USADA

Olympic 100-metre hurdles champion Brianna Rollins has been given a one-year ban by USADA.

The 25-year-old, who also won gold at the World Championships in 2013, missed three out-of-competition drug tests, due to failing to update her whereabouts to WADA. Rollins led a historic clean sweep of medals for Team USA in the event in Brazil.

Two of Rollins' missed tests came following her Olympic success. She failed to update here whereabouts when going to The White House to meet President Barack Obama following her Olympic triumph. A second missed test came off the back of her attendance at 'Brianna Rollins Day' in Miami in Florida.

USADA confirmed that the Olympic champion did not fail any tests, but "the combination of three Whereabouts Failures within a 12-month period constitutes a rule violation".

In a statement released on Thursday, Rollins confirmed she will not compete in 2017. Her ban runs from September 27th last year, for 12 months.

"I accept full responsibility for the mistakes that led to my suspension, and I am disappointed that I will have to miss this coming outdoor season, as a result of my confusion over how the whereabouts system worked. I have always been a supporter of Usada and their fight to keep our sport clean, and I will continue to do my part to prove that success can be achieved without shortcuts."

Under the Whereabouts system, every athlete must give anti-doping officials their location for one hour each day, for out of competition testing.
