The potential fight between Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather will not be blocked by the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC).
Every fight that takes place in the Las Vegas and its surrounds must be approved by the NSAC if it is to go ahead. The Commission has the power to veto any fights that could take place in the state.
Speaking to MMAFighting.com, NSAC executive director Bob Bennett revealed that he felt the fight would be "approvable", despite McGregor never fighting a professional bout.
"He throws like a ton of bricks", Bennett revealed. "He’s got an iron-clad chin. He’s an inch or two taller than Mayweather. His arm reach is two inches more. He also has fought at 145, 155 and 170. So he’s the bigger, taller, longer fighter."
The NSAC executive director also admitted he had seen footage of McGregor training in recent months, as reports of the potential fight intensified. Mr. Bennett also watch old fight of the Dubliner, when he fought as an amateur in the national boxing championships.
A fight between the duo has the potential to be one of the most lucrative in combat sports history. With Las Vegas looking like the most likely venue for the fight, Bennett confirmed that the potential revenue at stake for the Nevada region has nothing to do with allowing the fight to take place.
"That doesn’t dictate whether it’s approvable... It’s their actions in the cage and in the ring. And it is an anomaly. But as far as boxing concerns, it’s an approvable fight. Obviously, this fight will be a lucrative fight. But our number one priority is still the health and safety of the fighter."
