Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho believes envy is the reason behind the recent criticism of midfielder Paul Pogba.
A number of pundits questioned the £89 million midfielder's performance following their FA Cup quarter-final defeat to Chelsea on Monday, with many contrasting his showing with Chelsea counterpart and France team-mate N'Golo Kante who continues to garner rave reviews.
Mourinho claims Pogba's critics are just jealous of the world record transfer.
"I feel that the world is losing values and we all know that and envy is coming into certain levels that I am scared with," he claimed.
"It is not Paul’s fault that he gets 10 times the money that some very good players get. It is not Paul’s fault that some fans are in trouble and need every penny to survive and that he is a multi-millionaire.
"He needs respect, his family deserve respect. He is from a working family, a family with three boys and I am sure they need a lot of food on their table each day because they are all giants, so I’m sure that the Mum and Dad had to work hard for many, many years for them.
"A kid that came to Manchester as a teenager, who fought for his career here and was not afraid to move and go to another country and look for better conditions for himself.
"A kid that reached the top of the world with this work, nobody gave him anything. So I am really, really worried with the previous generations that things are going in such a direction that envy is everywhere."
Meanwhile, just a week after Jose Mourinho's criticism of it, Rostov's pitch has been banned from use by the Russian Premier League.
The Manchester United boss said he was shocked his team were being forced to play on "a field" during last Thursday's 1-1 draw in the Europa League.
A deadline's been set of next Friday by the Russian Premier League for the Olimp-2 Stadium to repair the pitch's "shortfalls".
