Mo Farah runs fastest 5,000m of the year

Mo Farah has completed the fastest winning time of the year in the 5,000m.

The four-time Olympic champion clocked up a time of 13 minutes 00.70 seconds to win the event at the Diamond League in Oregon.

This was Farah's second competition of the outdoor season after finishing second in the 1,500m in Los Angeles earlier this month.

Ethiopia's Yomif Kejelcha led the chasing pack in second place, coming in at 13:01.21, while Geoffrey Kamworor of Kenya finished third in 13:01.35.

Speaking to BBC Sport after his victory, Farah said:

"For me it wasn't about time. It was just a matter of telling the boys 'Look, I'm ready.'"

"A lot of the boys talk a lot. A lot of guys saying 'I'm going to do this or that.' I don't like to do that. I just want my running to do the talking and get on with it.

"I've got a target on my back, I've been on the top of my game for the last five years and everyone wants to beat me.

Farah, who defended his 5,000m and 10,000m titles at the Rio Olympics last year, intends to retire from track racing after the World Championships in London later this summer, where he hopes to win a fourth consecutive gold medal in the 5,000m.
