Michael Conlan to join McGregor camp ahead of potential Mayweather bout

Michael Conlan has revealed he plans to help Conor McGregor prepare for a potential fight with Floyd Mayweather.

The Irish duo have grown close in recent years, culminating in McGregor being in Conlan's corner for his professional debut last March.

Two fights into his career as a professional, Conlan will fight for the third time later this month. He is on the undercard on Manny Pacquiao's fight with Jeff Horn in Brisbane at the start of July.

Speaking to Boxing News, the Belfast fighter revealed that even though McGregor's potential fight with Mayweather has not been confirmed, the Dubliner is already preparing for what would be his debut in professional boxing.

"He asked me would I come down and be a part of his camp", Conlan admitted. "He would like me to be part of his camp for the fight if it happens. He didn’t even say if it happens, he said he would like me to be a part of the camp for the fight. I’m not saying I’m going to spar him or nothing."

"He wants me to come down and be part of it and experience it all with me. I think it’ll be a fantastic opportunity to go down and do that. I definitely bring something to the table. I’d definitely be able to spot things, if things are wrong, if he’s throwing punches wrong, little things people who aren’t in boxing do naturally."

"I’m not going to say I’m going to teach him how to beat Floyd Mayweather!", Conlan concluded.

While the relationship between Conlan and McGregor is well known, the fact McGregor has already made contact with a boxer of Conlan's pedigree, shows he is serious in proving the sporting world wrong in defeating the 49-0 Mayweather.
