Mayo Ladies manager frustrated double-header can't happen this weekend

The Mayo Ladies football manager has expressed his frustration that his side cannot be involved in a double-header this weekend.

Mayo and Dublin played out a double-header last weekend, ahead of the men's game between Dublin and Roscommon in Croke Park.

It was a landmark occasion, in which the first Ladies National League game was held at GAA headquarters.

Both the Mayo men's and women's squads have home league games this weekend, but a double-header is not taking place.

The Mayo men are facing Donegal at MacHale Park at 2pm, while the women are hosting Kerry in Swinford at the same throw-in time.

Speaking on Mid West Radio, Mayo manager Frank Browne articulated his frustration that a double-header could not have been arranged in the county this weekend, and suggested that the two GAA associations should merge in the future.

"I don't see a reason why not. At some stage, we're gonna have to look at all coming under the GAA umbrella. At the end of the day, it's our association, they're our people that are playing.

"This weekend is a prime example. Mayo and Donegal in McHale Park at 2 o'clock. We're playing Kerry in the National League. I, for the life of me, can't see why that can't be a double-header at 12pm or even a 4 o'clock game after the men's game.

"Weather is improving, pitches are getting good. Maybe eventually but it was very important to have the ground-breaking one in Croke Park as well."
