The quality of football may not be of the standard of some European leagues, but their social media accounts are trailblazers.
LA Galaxy and Portland Timbers played each other on Sunday in California, with the away side winning 1-0. At one point in the match, Galaxy defender Jelle Van Damme tried to tackle Diego Chara.
From the man television camera, it looked like no contact was made between the two players, despite Chara falling flamboyantly to the ground. The Galaxy's social media team decided to take matters into their own hands, in a unique way.

Shooting Stars memes have become common place on the internet in recent months, and the Galaxy decided to put all their social media know-how into dealing with Portland Timbers, who did not seem impressed by the video.
@LAGalaxy if you can only put fans in 60% of your seats a cute meme is one way to get attention. We have video guys, too. Stay tuned...

LA Galaxy will be joined in the StubHub Center later this year by the NFL side, LA Chargers. The team moved at the end of the season from San Diego, and are using the StubHub Center as a temporary base.
The Timbers decided to have the final say on the matter, despite apologies from the LA Galaxy social media team.
.@brendanhannan @LAGalaxy it's all good ... no offense taken here (and we know quality football will soon be on its way to StubHub 😉). pic.twitter.com/2CVMWxOMFm

Could you imagine teams like Manchester United and Arsenal doing something similar? It's very doubtful.
