Luke Shaw looks to be set for a stint on the sidelines with suspected foot ligament damage, according to reports.
The United defender has undergone a scan after limping off after nine minutes of his side's 1-1 draw against Swansea on Sunday.
It was feared that the prognosis would be discouraging, and The Guardian reports today that Shaw could be a doubt for the beginning of next season, after the scan showed up serious ligament damage.
This latest development compounds the already worrying injury list at Man United. Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Marcos Rojo have both been ruled out for the rest of the season with cruciate ligament injuries, while Phil Jones, Juan Mata and Chris Smalling are also among those nursing injuries.
This is the second significant injury to hit Shaw since he suffered a double leg break during a Champions League outing in 2015.
Shaw completed his recovery from that blow at the outset of this season, but has endured a turbulent period of form at Old Trafford. He has made only 20 appearances for the club, and was publicly criticised by manager Jose Mourinho on a few occasions.
Following a draw against Everton in early April, Mourinho said that while Shaw played well, he said he had to constantly direct Shaw from the sideline.
He said was it 'was his body with my brain,' and claimed that he had to make 'every decision for him.'
