Leinster unleash second half onslaught to hammer Scarlets

Leinster scored five second half tries as Leo Cullen's side secured a 45-9 bonus point win over Scarlets in the Guinness Pro 12.

Leinster had held a narrow 12-9 win at half time with two tries scored by Luke McGrath, with the Welsh side reducing the impact of those scores thanks to a trio of penalties from Dan Jones.

But the second '40 was a completely different story as Leinster ran riot.

First Rhys Ruddock's try eight minutes into the second half had Leinster within one try of a bonus point.

That duly arrived when Joey Carbery scored the first of two consecutive tries.

The out half's second try came on 54 minutes, three minutes after his first.

Ed Byrne scored a sixth Leinster try five minutes later before Jamison Gibson-Park added a final one for good measure on 80 minutes, with the Irish side also keeping Scarlets scoreless in a one sided second half.

There was a lighter moment as well in the second half as referee Nigel Owens yellow carded a ball boy for accidentally hitting him with the ball:

The result means Leinster return to the top of the Guinness Pro 12 on 66 points, two ahead of second placed Ospreys.

Munster's victory over Cardiff Blues earlier on Saturday means Rassie Erasmus' side are within striking distance of the Top 2 with 63 points.
