LOI Premier Division Round-up: Cork City shine again to extend lead

Cork City have stretched their lead at the top of the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division after a commanding 5-0 home win over Finn Harps at Turner's Cross.

The victory means Cork's outstanding start now reads 12 wins from their opening 12 games of the league season and just as significantly, their lead at the top has already been extended to 14 points, with Bray Wanderers an already distant second.

Sean Maguire scored twice while Stephen Dooley, Gearoid Morrissey and Ryan Delaney also found the net for Cork.

Meanwhile, defending champions Dundalk have slipped a full 15 points behind Cork City after a 2-1 defeat at Shamrock Rovers which leaves Stephen Kenny's side down in third.

Goals from Ronan Finn and David McAllister had Rovers 2-0 up by half time before they had Darren Meenan sent off late on.

Dundalk got a consolation in the final stages as Niclas Vemmelund scored at Tallaght Stadium.

As a result, Bray Wanderers go one point above them in second in the table after a 1-1 draw at home to struggling St Patrick's Athletic.

Ryan Brennan gave Bray the lead but Pats would level through Kurtis Byrne.

Derry City have climbed up to fourth after a 2-0 home win over Bohemians courtesy of goals from Dean Jarvis and Aaron McEneff.

Elsewhere, Galway United remain bottom but stayed in touch with the sides above them after a 2-2 draw at Drogheda United.

The away side scored through Padraic Cunningham and Jesse Devers, while Adam Wixted's brace earned a point for Drogheda.
