Kilkenny have won the Allianz Hurling League after a pulsating extra time win over Tipperary at Semple Stadium. The Cats won the Division 1 final by just a solitary point, beating their near neighbours by 2-25 to 1-27.
The sides couldn’t be separated and an injury time point from Kieran Bergin for Tipperary in normal time made the score 2-17 to 1-20 and brought the game to extra time.
Tipperary’s goal scorer was John O’Dwyer, while Kilkenny hit the net twice through TJ Reid penalties. The win is Kilkenny’s third league title in a row.
The second Round of the Leinster Hurling Championship Qualifier Group was also underway today. Laois beat Westmeath by a score of 1-15 to 1-09 at Cusack Park, while Antrim edged out Carlow by 2-18 to 1-17 at Dr. Cullen Park.
Later this evening, the Senior Football Championship gets underway in New York City. New York and Mayo kick off the Connacht Championship today, with last year's beaten All-Ireland finalists in the US for the Connacht Quarter-Final.
Throw in at Gaelic Park in New York is at 7.30pm Irish time (2.30 local time).
