Kevin Kilbane takes David Haye to task over remarks

On Saturday, David Haye and Tony Bellew will go head to head in all British heavyweight boxing bout.

Naturally, trash talking has been building up and as expected the press conference in Liverpool was heated.

However, Haye made headlines for the wrong reasons as he branded the crowd in attendance "retards" - a clearly appalling and offensive term and an unacceptable use of language.

Off The Ball's Kevin Kilbane's daughter Elsie has Down Syndrome. The former Ireland international is also an ambassador for Down Syndrome Ireland, and he raised the use of that word on the Newsround.

"These are the sort of terms now, in this day and age, with how we've gone on racism and sexism, this sort of language is disgraceful," he said.

"And I understand gamesmanship, and I understand all the hype around fights and giving each other abuse. We've seen it all now and it does seem to be genuine animosity between these two, fair enough.

"But for David Haye to use that word 'retard' - not just once, because he's used it before - no one has told him the severity of using that word. You just think, 'Come on, you're representing a sport here and you're representing yourself' and for a man to stand up in front of so many people and use that term, use that word, it's disgraceful.

"These sort of terms are the equivalent of racism and sexism and I don't care what anybody says. It's exactly the same and these sort of terms should be wiped out now. They're totally unacceptable. And for David Haye to use that word, it's outrageous. I was disgusted when I heard it today. Disgusted with him."
