Kevin Kilbane on Liam Miller: "He was a very, very humble lad"

Kevin Kilbane joined Saturday's Off the Ball to reflect on the life of Liam Miller after the former Republic of Ireland midfielder passed away over night.

Kilbane reflected on the affable Corkman's personality off the field as well as on it and speaking to Nathan Murphy, he said: "Yeah, it's just incredibly sad when I'd taken the text late on last night.

"I think we all think of him, certainly most people think of him, as the player on the pitch - the talented footballer that he was. Some excellent goals - the goal I immediately thought of was the goal in 2006 in Steve Staunton's first game when he scored that cracker against Sweden.

"But, it was off the pitch where you only need to see some of the tributes from some of the lads, Stephen Elliott has put an excellent Tweet out today. I'd speak to Graham Barrett along the way as well - Graham Barrett and Liam were very, very close and you'll see the relationship he has with those lads who were part of his youth side growing up - you can see what he meant to those boys.

"He was a very, very humble lad - he was a very, very down-to-earth lad. There was certainly no edge to him whatsoever - a very, very quiet boy actually but also a very talented player.

"The overriding factor from it all is you think of his family, you think of his wife, you think of his children and of course, his parents. His immediate family as well and friends - they'll be feeling it more so than anyone today and it's just dreadful, it's just awful when you get that text and you hear the news," he added.
