Keith Andrews on Ireland's win: "We were so open and so naive in the second half"

Former Ireland international Keith Andrews joined Saturday's Off the Ball to review the Republic of Ireland's win over Moldova on Friday.

Despite winning 2-0, the performance wasn't convincing against a weak team and speaking to Nathan Murphy, Andrews said: "I thought the first half and hour (was) good with the energy we played with. Obviously the early goal helped us. The formation - it doesn't really matter what formation you play against them because they're going to give you time and space to play in areas that you're not going to get on Monday against Wales.

"They are a poor side - a really, really poor side and if they had had anything about them, a little like  Georgia, in terms of in and around the opposition box - we would have been in trouble with the spaces we left them.

"So, I thought positives, obviously clean sheet. Certain individuals played well, Murphy got his couple of goals. O'Dowda, I had an inkling he would have started because apparently he has been shining in training which is good to hear.

"You just wondered whether Hogan and Maguire may have gotten a little bit longer but I think at 2-0, Martin was probably thinking 'I still need to be a little bit careful here'. I was saying in the studio yesterday if we had have gone three/four goals up  - he would have been able to take players off a little bit earlier and I would imagine that he has some sort of game plan in place and he could have been a little more cautious with certain players.

"They were causing us problems in the second half. We were so open and so naive in the second half in terms of letting them break on us - I was struggling to see how we were that lopsided at times," he added.
