Katie McCabe: "I never had a doubt in my mind that we were going to drop any points"

The Republic of Ireland Women's team moved a step closer to qualifying for the World Cup finals in France next year after a dramatic 2-1 over Slovakia at Tallaght Stadium on Friday.

With the clock running down with the sides locked at 1-1, after goals by striker Leanne Keirnan and and own goal, Amber Barrett came off the bench to snatch the points.

Speaking to Off the Ball's Will O'Callaghan after the match, Irish captain Katie McCabe was quick to praise the side's two goal scorers.

"Yeah! Amber, she does it in training but that was when it matters - to get us the three points.

"She's been terrific - she did well when she came on and our little youngster Leanne didn't do too bad to get us 1-0 up as well.

"I never had a doubt in my mind that we were going to drop any points. I knew what way we could move the ball and, as I said, the first half didn't go to plan as they were really, really, tough conditions but we got there in the end and it was a class finish from Amber."

The Irish welcome The Netherlands to Tallaght on Tuesday with the visitors currently ahead of Colin Bell's side on goal difference going into the match.
