Ireland's riders excel in the Netherlands

Ireland's riders had reason to celebrate this weekend, with both Bertram Allen and Judy Reynolds excelling in the Netherlands.

Allen emerged victorious in last night’s 1m55 Audi Prize at 's-Hertogenbosch on board 13-year-old gelding Quiet Easy.

"He [Quiet Easy] is a fantastic horse, he really wins a lot. There are not many shows where he doesn’t win money," he said.

The pair crossed the line clear in 34.73 seconds and finished almost two seconds ahead of Italian runner-up Lorenzo de Luca riding Halifax van het Kluizebos.

The Wexford native was one of 12 riders, including fellow compatriot Denis Lynch, who made it into the jump-off.

Lynch recorded a double clear round with 10-year-old stallion Van Helsing to finish sixth.

Bertram had earlier finished third in the Derby competition at the same venue riding EH Quick Nina.

"This was my first show with her [EH Quick Nina]. She was second in a class the day before and is a super, super horse," he added.

Judy Reynolds, meanwhile, made history by becoming the first ever Irish rider to qualify for the World Cup Dressage Finals.

Reynolds received an invitation to compete at the 2016 World Cup finals and went on to finish in eighth place. However, a sixth place finish in today’s final qualifying round alongside previous results through the winter saw the Kildare native finish on a 57-point total and book her spot in the finals.

On board 15-year-old gelding Vancouver K, Judy finished with a score of 77.87% in Saturday's competition, which was won by Dutch rider Hans Peter Minderhoud riding Glock´s Flirt on a score of 84.89%.
