It was a night of few chances but the goalless draw with Wales means Ireland remain unbeaten and level with Serbia at the top of the World Cup qualifying group.
How did the Irish team perform individually?
Darren Randolph 6
He had very little to do in the first half which was underlined by the stat that neither Ireland nor Wales had a shot on target.
Gareth Bale's free kick just after half time was the first shot on target and the Bray native was right behind it to make a comfortable save. A solid showing.
Seamus Coleman 6
The captain had one lapse in concentration on 22 minutes when a long ball went over his head but fortunately Wales full back Neil Taylor could not bring it down.
The Donegal man made a timely challenge on 46 minutes to prevent Sam Vokes pulling the trigger from close range.
The Everton full back's night ended in terrible fashion after a bad challenge by Neil Taylor on 68 minutes, who was sent off as a result. Coleman was stretchered off in clear distress. A worrying one.
Richard Keogh 6
Held his ground alongside John O'Shea at the heart of the back four. His error almost allowed Gareth Bale to score a long range effort in the final 10 minutes.

John O'Shea 7
The experienced leader at the back often found himself in the right place at the right time as Wales turned the screw somewhat in the early part of the first half.
O'Shea got to a clearance on the hour which saw him caught by Gareth Bale, earning the Welsh winger a yellow card and suspension from the next game against Serbia.
Stephen Ward 6
Put in a solid shift defensively at left back behind James McClean.
Glenn Whelan 6
Disciplined out of possession and relatively quiet on it as he protected the back four. Clashed with Stoke team-mate Joe Allen at the stroke of half time when he caught his now opponent with his arm - but there was no malice behind it.
David Meyler 7
The Hull City midfielder was a late addition to the starting XI in place of James McCarthy who was withdrawn shortly before kick off.

He was an industrious figure at the heart of midfield early on as he snapped into challenges. Really tenacious in winning the ball back.
The Cork man was booked seconds after the break for a robust aerial challenge on Aaron Ramsey.
Withdrawn on 78 minutes as Aiden McGeady was introduced to take the game to Wales.
Jeff Hendrick 6
Lost the ball in a dangerous position on 37 minutes as he was brushed off the ball. Had a quiet enough game in the end.
Jonathan Walters 6
A battling display as expected as he committed himself to closing down the opposition on the Irish right side.

James McClean 8
In an emotional week for the winger after the sad passing of his close friend, Derry City captain Ryan McBride, McClean wore the No 5 jersey in his honour.
He made an excellent early tackle in the heart of midfield early on to set the tone, even if a clear chance didn't emerge on that occasion.
McClean has already made himself known, some big tackles early on and bustling for possession. Industrious stuff #IRLWAL

The Derry native did well with a shoulder to shoulder challenge on 58 minutes to win a corner that Ireland almost profited from.
Almost gave Ireland the lead with 17 minutes to go but his shot deflected agonisingly wide. The best performer for Ireland overall.
Shane Long 6
As ever he was willing to chase lost causes up front with service towards him rather direct and distant in the first half, which was difficult against the back three of Wales.
Did well when he dropped deep to help in the battle to regain possession.
Substitutes
Cyrus Christie
The right back came on for the injured Coleman on 71 minutes.
Aiden McGeady
The Preston winger came on to add some attacking impetus in place of David Meyler on 78 minutes with Ireland having the man advantage.
