"I'm happily retired" - Mayweather dampens McGregor fight hype

The circus shows no sign of stopping.

Floyd Mayweather's fight with Conor McGregor continues to inch closer, but the 39-year-old boxer revealed on social media on Tuesday that he remains "happily retired".

The statements come weeks after Mayweather claimed the fight was getting closer. He told Sky Sports last month that "most likely the fight will happen".

"I don't know [when the fight happens], I have to communicate with my team, the fight hasn't been made yet, but it is all about entertainment so hopefully we can make it happen."

Mayweather's statements came as Conor McGregor arrived in Las Vegas, reportedly to solve any issues that may scupper a Las Vegas fight. The Dubliner has been granted a boxing license in California, but has yet to be given one in Nevada, due to an outstanding fine that has to be paid.

After arriving in Las Vegas, McGregor confirmed that the 49-0 boxer was on his mind.

As unlikely as the fight seems to be, it's certainly, somehow, seems to be inching closer.
