George St. Pierre on Conor McGregor: "He’s the biggest seller in the sport of all time"

MMA legend George St. Pierre has praised Conor McGregor as the Canadian prepares to return to the octagon later this year.

The former welterweight champion has returned from his self-imposed exile from the sport and is due to face middleweight champion Michael Bisping later this year.

No date has been officially set for the fight but it is expected to be scheduled for international fight week in Las Vegas in July.

GSP returns with the UFC landscape vastly different to the one he left at the end of 2013 following his controversial decision win over Johnny Hendricks.

The United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) now administers all doping procedures and protocols independently from the UFC. There's three female divisions within the promotion and Conor McGregor is breaking all sorts of pay-per-view and commercial records with each outing.

Speaking to Russia Today about the Irishman, GSP said: "I think he’s a great fighter. I think he’s a really great fighter. He’s a very charismatic fighter. He’s the biggest seller in the sport of all time. He’s the biggest draw. But I think now he’s going to fight Floyd Mayweather, I’ve heard, in a boxing match.

"I think it will happen. I know Floyd will never fight Conor in a mixed martial arts fight, but Conor could fight Floyd in a boxing match. I don’t think he’s going to win, I don’t think he’s going to win at all, but I think he wants to do it and he’s going to make a lot of money out of it," he added.

GSP trains primarily out of the Tri Star gym in Montreal but has recently enlisted the services of famed boxing coach Freddie Roach.

Roach previously admitted that the Canadian icon wants to end his career with a super-fight against Conor McGregor in the last of his three fight contract.
