Keith Andrews admits he wanted to leave the stadium following Neil Taylor's tackle on Seamus Coleman during Friday's World Cup Qualifier.
Wales and Ireland drew 0-0, but the result almost seemed at the back of people's minds by the end of the night. Early fears were confirmed this afternoon when it was confirmed that Coleman had fractured his right fibula and tibia.
Indications after surgery are that Coleman's earliest possible return to the pitch is likely to be in first half of 2018.
Speaking on Off The Ball's 'Saturday Panel', former Irish international Andrews described the tackle as "disgusting".
"I have to be honest, at first glance last night I was a long way away from it - right at the corner flag at the opposite end," he said. "I thought it was a really firm tackle from both players.
"The tackle, seeing it back, Taylor was reckless to be mild. It was a disgusting tackle. From that moment, the game was dead for me. I just wanted to get out of the stadium. I felt sick."
At the post-match press conference, Wales manager Chris Coleman claimed Taylor was "not that type of player" and that the tackle in question was out of character for "one of the best full-backs in the Premier League".
"I don't think [Coleman] covered himself in glory. There's a fine line about having that sort of protective arm around your team and your players... I thought he could have dealt with it a little bit better."
Ireland slip to second in the Group D standings, level on points with Serbia at the top but behind on goal difference.
