Former UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar is rooting for Max Holloway when the Hawaiian squares off with Jose Aldo in the main event of UFC 212 in Brazil.
Edgar is attempting to become only the fourth person in the promotion's history to hold championship belts in two divisions after Randy Couture, BJ Penn and Conor McGregor.
The New Jersey native won the 155 lbs title when he beat Penn by unanimous decision in 2010. He defended the title on three occasions before losing to Benson Henderson twice in 2012.
He then dropped down to the featherweight limit of 145 lbs and has come up short twice in title fights against Jose Aldo.
The Brazilian is due to face Max Holloway in a featherweight unification bout at UFC 211 and Edgar will be hoping his compatriot is victorious if he is to get another crack at the title.

Speaking to the UFC's official website, Edgar said: “I think I’m always going to be knocking on the door for a title based on what I’ve done and who I am but yeah, I think Holloway would have to win for me to get that next title shot.
"I’m not one to root for it, though. Things will play out the way they do and if they don’t, so be it. Ever since I lost that title in 2012, I’ve been gunning for it, and you lose sight of what’s in front of you at times. So right now, I just want to worry about what’s next, keep fighting and stay busy," he added.
Edgar is coming off a decision win over Jeremy Stephens last November and is due to face off against rising star Yair Rodriguez at UFC 211 in Dallas, Texas.
