David Moyes has been charged by the FA for comments made to a BBC reporter. Moyes remarked he might 'slap' her during a post-match interview.
Moyes was being interviewed by BBC reporter Vicki Sparks, following Sunderland's draw with Burnley last month. Sparks questioned whether club owner Ellis Short's presence at the ground added more pressure to his job and the fight against relegation.
"It was getting a wee bit naughty at the end there so just watch yourself," he said during comments made off-air.
"You still might get a slap, even though you're a woman. Careful the next time you come in."
The pair are heard laughing after the exchange. Moyes revealed that he had previously contacted Sparks to apologise and publicly apologised at the start of April over the incident.
"It was in the heat of the moment," Moyes said at his press conference.
"I deeply regret the comments I made. It's certainly not the person I am and I accept it was a mistake. I've spoken to the BBC reporter, who accepted my apology and hopefully we can now move on."
The FA confirmed they were aware of the comments made the when it emerged in a video published by the Daily Star and have now decided to charge the Scot.
"David Moyes has been charged in relation to comments made after the game against Burnley on 18 March 2017," the FA said in a statement on Wednesday.
"It is alleged the Sunderland manager’s remarks were improper and/or threatening and/or brought the game into disrepute, contrary to FA Rule E3(1).
"He has until 6pm on 3 May 2017 to reply to the charge."
