Eleven-year-old golfer qualifies for US Women's Open

Before Lucy Li, the youngest player was Lexi Thompson who was 12 when she qualified for the 2007 Open.

The eleven-year-old was born in California on October 1st 2002.

Li Qualified for the Open by winning the sectional qualifier at Half Moon Bay in California. She shot rounds of 74-68 on the par-72 Old Course on Monday. She won her qualifier by seven shots.

She will not be the youngest ever player to participate in the US Women’s Open though.

Beverly Klass was just 10 when she played in 1967 before the qualification process.

Li will now head to Pinehurst for the US Women's Open and compete against players like Inbee Park, Stacy Lewis, and Lydia Ko, some of the best women's golfers in the world. 

The Open will be played from June 19-22.
