Eddie Gormley on Cabinteely floodlight failure: “I’m not an electrician"

Cabinteely and Athlone Town saw their First Division Airticity League fixture brought to an early end on Saturday evening due to a floodlight failure at Stradbrook Park.

The home side were leading 1-0 with 20 minutes to play before referee Andrew Mullally deemed there was too little light to complete the fixture.

The FAI have confirmed the fixture will be replayed at a later date and the result will not stand.

Speaking to Off The Ball reporter Jamie Moore, Cabinteely boss Eddie Gormley showed little patience for questions concerning the floodlight failure.

“Listen Jamie, I’m a football manager,” Gormley said.

“I’m not an electrician. If you want to talk about the lights, go and talk to somebody who knows about generators. I don’t know anything about generators.

“Speak to me about the match, I’m not speaking to you about the lights. They’re nothing to do with me.”
