Steven Davis disappointed with Southampton performance at Tottenham

Southampton midfielder Steven Davis has expressed his disappointment after his side's narrow defeat 2-1 to Tottenaham in Sunday's Premier League head to head.

The Northern Ireland captain spoke to Newstalk after the Sundays lunch-time kick off.

“It was a frustrating game, obviously Spurs are a difficult team to play against,” he said. “We felt we were a little bit hard done by to be 2-0 down. I think second half we came out well and we did great to get ourselves back in the match. But we seemed to lack that clinical edge to get something from the game.”

Davis partnered Oriol Romeu in central midfield where they were up against arguably the two most physical players in the league, Victor Wanyama and Moussa Dembele:

“They are very strong,” he said. “Obviously playing with Vic [Wanyama] and training with him day in and day out we know what he is all about. They are a tough pairing to play against.”

Southampton find themselves in 10th position with two games in hand over their nearest rivals. Having made it to the EFL Cup final and safety pretty much guaranteed in the league, finishing as high up in the table is all they have to play for.

“We want to go and have a strong finish to the season,” said Davis. “It's been a little bit of a frustrating season in terms of the league. We haven't really got the consistency which we would have really liked, but we have a lot of games still to play against the top sides. We have a lot to play for still.”
