David Haye has been summoned by British boxing authorities, to explain his conduct ahead of a recent heavyweight bout against Tony Bellew.
Pre-fight exchanges flared between both fighters, in which Haye made graphic claims about the physical harm he would do to Bellew.
He also made offensive statements towards fans of Bellew at a pre-fight press conference in Liverpool. Haye described the fans in Bellew's hometown as 'retards,' a claim which Newstalk's Kevin Kilbane heavily condemned while speaking on Off The Ball.
Haye, who was subsequently defeated by Bellew in an 11th round stoppage, must now appear before the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBofC) on April 12th.
Speaking on Off The Ball after his victory at the London O2 arena, Bellew said he believed Haye meant the offensive comments he made. He added that while he respects Haye on a personal level, he considers him to be a scumbag on a personal level.
Both fighters were issued warnings about their behaviour on the back of that tense press-conference in Liverpool.
Haye accepted that his comments were unacceptable, and the BBBofC believes his behaviour improved in the aftermath.
