UFC President Dana White has revealed that he hasn't spoken to lightweight champion Conor McGregor in weeks despite the constant speculation of a mega-fight between the Irishman and boxing superstar Floyd Mayweather.
Speaking about where negotiations are currently at, White said: "He came out and said 'I can do this without them [the UFC]' and I guarantee you he can't do it without us.
"What I've said was that I've always been respectful of Conor with the things he wants to do and everything else but if he wants to go down that road it will be an epic fall. And everybody knows exactly what that means. I don't think anything else needs to be said. That's it."
Asked why discussions with McGregor haven't taken place yet, he said: "There's nothing to talk about. Conor McGregor is under contract with the UFC. He's out on maternity leave right now and after his girl has the baby we'll offer him another fight."
McGregor hasn't fought since beating Eddie Alvarez last November to win the UFC lightweight title at Madison Square Garden to become the first fighter in the promotion's history to hold two titles simultaneously.
The Dubliner's last public appearance was to accompany Michael Conlan to the ring during his professional debut at Madison Square Garden on St. Patrick's weekend. McGregor headed straight for the boxing media after Conlan's win and vowed to shock the world and knock Mayweather out.
