Dana White believes the McGregor-Mayweather fight will happen

UFC President Dana White believes the super-fight between Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather will happen.

Both fighters have said publicly that they want to compete in a lucrative boxing match at some stage in 2017 but are yet to enter into formal negotiations.

Speaking on "Conan" on Wednesday night, White said: "I do think it’s gonna happen, I think it’s going to be a tough deal, because obviously a lot of egos involved in this deal and a lot of people, so that always makes it tougher. On the flip side, there’s so much money involved. I just don’t see how it doesn’t happen.”

"Conor McGregor is huge. He’s 27 years old. He’s in the prime of his career. Floyd is 40. Floyd has always had a problem with southpaws. Conor is a southpaw. And Conor hits hard. When he hits people, they go. Floyd’s definitely not knocking him out — that’s for sure. I’m not saying that Conor would win this boxing match, but it sure makes it interesting.”

McGregor is currently the UFC's lightweight champion while the undefeated Mayweather hasn't fought since 2015. However he said he is willing to come out of retirement to face the Irishman.

While McGregor regularly breaks the 1 million pay-per-view mark, Mayweather was involved in the richest fight in boxing history when he eventually fought Manny Pacquiao in May 2015 which did over 4.4 million in PPV sales in the US alone.
