Costa makes Spain World Cup squad

Atletico Madrid star striker Diego Costa has made the Spanish World Cup squad, despite concerns over his a hamstring injury.

Costa suffered the injury during Atletico’s last La Liga game of the season, against Barcelona, and lasted just 10 minutes in last weekend’s Champions League final.

Chelsea’s Fernando Torres also makes the squad, along with Atletico trio Juanfran, Koke and David Villa.

Barcelona have seven representatives in the squad, while newly crowned European Champions Real Madrid have just three – Iker Casillas, Sergio Ramos and Xabi Alonso.

The strength in depth available to Spanish boss Vicente Del Bosque is evident in the fact that Manchester City duo Alvaro Negredo and Jesus NAvas do not make the final 23.

Mancehster United are represented by David De Gea and Juan Mata.

The Spanish side is aiming to become the first side in over 50 years to retain the World Cup, and the first side in football history to win four major international tournaments in a row – two World Cups and two European Championships.
