Colm Cooper set to announce his retirement

Kerry great Colm Cooper looks set to retire from inter-county football, according to reports.

The 33-year-old looks set to call time on an illustrious career on Tuesday, claims the Irish Independent. The decision comes less than three weeks after he helped his club Dr. Crokes win the All-Ireland Football Club Final in Croke Park.

Cooper has failed to reach the heights on his early career since he fractured his knee cap and ruptured a cruciate ligament in 2014. He missed the remainder of that season, but was an unused sub in the All-Ireland Final win later that year.

One of the best players of his generation, 'Gooch' made his championship debut in 2002 as a 19-year-old, winning four All-Ireland titles from corner-forward. He was part of a dominant Kerry team of the last decade that won the Sam Maguire in 2004, 2006, 2007 and 2009.

He was also part of the teams that were runners-up in 2002, 2005, 2008 and 2011. Six years ago, he was Kerry captain in the team that lost the final to Dublin by a point.

As trophy-laden as Cooper's inter-county career was, he also impressed at club level. The Dr. Crokes star won six Kerry club titles, along with five Munster crowns and that elusive All-Ireland club title last month.

An eight-time All-Star, Cooper was also named Footballer of the Year in 2004.
