Wales defender Ben Davies says his team-mate Neil Taylor had no intention of causing injury after a challenge that left Ireland captain Seamus Coleman with a horrific broken leg.
The incident occurred midway through the second half in the 0-0 stalemate between the sides in the 2018 World Cup qualifier at Aviva Stadium.
Tottenham left back Davies spoke to Off The Ball's Dave McIntyre after the match and said Taylor was clearly dismayed by what happened to Coleman when he saw his team-mate in the dressing room after the match.
"I saw him after the game and you could tell he wasn't 100% right. He was gutted and he's not a malicious player. He's a tough tackling no nonsense player," said Davies.
It's just a shame he mistimed it a little bit and got it a bit wrong."
Davies also wished Coleman a speedy recovery and the 23 year old former Swansea City academy graduate felt there was no intention to cause injury in any of the tackles and challenges that occurred during the game from either side.
"It was a niggly game I think with a lot of tough challenges and a bit stop-start throughout. But overall we had good patches and we had bad patches but I think the game has been marred a little bit by the nasty injury to Seamus," he said.
"I think both sets of teams are pretty honest teams and tough tackling can be part of the game and I think that's what it was tonight. Nobody was out there to hurt each other. It was just a solid tackling game and we don't mind those games. But it's just unfortunate that an injury has come out of everything."
