Bastian Schweinsteiger is finally set to leave Manchester United.
The Germany World Cup winner is to join MLS side Chicago Fire. He will become only the second reigning World Cup winner to play in MLS. Brazilian defender Branco joined the New York/New Jersey MetroStars in 1997, three years after winning the World Cup in 1994.
Schweinsteiger has only played four times this season for Manchester United, but failed to make any league appearances. His final goal for the club came in the 4-0 over Wigan Athletic in the FA Cup in January.

Having joined the club at the start of last season, the former Germany captain was frozen out of the team at the start of the season by Jose Mourinho. He only made his first appearance of the season in late November in a League Cup win against West Ham.
According to the Chicago Tribune, the 32-year-old has signed a one-year deal, subject to visa clearance and passing a medical. He will be one of the highest paid players in the league.
"Throughout my career, I’ve always sought opportunities where I hoped to make a positive impact and to help make something great," Schweinsteiger told the newspaper. "My move to Chicago Fire is no different. Through my conversations with [the coach and general manager], I'm convinced by the club’s vision and philosophy and I want to help them with this project."
Schweinsteiger played 35 times for Manchester United.
