Andy Lee on Canelo-GGG: "It has all the ingredients to be an instant classic"

Andy Lee joined Joe Molloy on Tuesday's Off the Ball to preview the huge middleweight title fight between Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez and Gennady 'GGG' Golovkin in Las Vegas this weekend.

Golovkin goes into the bout undefeated in 37 fights - having stopped 33 of his opponents while Alvarez has only lost once in 46 bouts - a decision loss to Floyd Mayweather in 2013.

"It certainly is a rare occasion in boxing these days," said Lee, adding: "As Oscar De La Hoya has said - the two best fighters in the division fighting each other and probably two of the best fighters in the world pound-for-pound definitely.

"They're in the top four on Boxrec which is sometimes better than The Ring ratings as it's a points scoring system. It's definitely the two highest profile boxers fighting each other in the world. Not only that, the way the styles are set up to match each other, it has all the ingredients to be an instant classic.

"We've been waiting for it for years. The fight has been building and building and it's been more so on Alvarez' side. His team have been holding him back and choosing to fight other people and Golovkin has been very active in chasing the fight.

"It has come to a head now and they can't avoid each other and on Sunday morning we'll find out who is the best middleweight in the world.

Asked about Alvarez' counter-punching style, Lee said: "Sometimes when you say 'counter-puncher' - you tend to think negatively. He's one that will stand right in front of you and let you throw punches at him and he'll slip and counter at will and he's very effective when someone's throwing punches at him.

"He almost invites it. At times he will go to the ropes, back himself up and let someone unload and (he'll) punch in between and roll punches and catch punches and slip punches and he'll land in between all those punches."
