Silva is coming off a controversial unanimous decision win over Derek Brunson at UFC 208. The Brazilian, considered by the some as the greatest of all time in MMA, endured a difficult few years since he lost his title to Chris Weidman in July 2013. He lost to both Michael Bisping and Daniel Cormier last year.
Gastelum is a former "Ultimate Fighter" reality series winner when he beat the highly favoured Urijah Hall in the final. He is currently 9-2 in the UFC and moved up to middleweight after suffering difficulties attempting to make the welterweight limit.
Jose Aldo will face Max Holloway in the main event at UFC 212 while top women's strawweight contenders Karolina Kowalkiewicz and Claudia Gadelha are also scheduled to fight.
