'If they don't get to the final it will be seen as a disaster' | Quinlan on England's expectations

Eddie Jones has once again stolen the spotlight in the lead up to an England game, but as Alan Quinlan said it doesn't mean there is no pressure on the team.

A lot has been said about the way Jones takes the pressure of his players but according to Quinlan, if they lose against New Zealand, he will be the target for scrutiny.

"Make no bones about it if England loses to New Zealand the pressure will ramp up on Eddie Jones.

"Steve Hansen said it during the week that it's absolute nonsense that they are not under any pressure," Quinlan said.

As well as having one of the biggest pool of players to choose from in world rugby, England also have a financial advantage which brings greater expectations.

No stone unturned

"When you talk about preparation and finances being pumped into a team, England are the wealthiest rugby nation in the world.

"They have left no stone unturned as regards the resources they have given the group and if they don't get to a World Cup final it will be seen as a disaster," Quinlan stated.

In terms of how the semi-final will pan out, he has a sneaky feeling that the Northern Hemisphere side will cause an upset.

"I have a feeling that this England group are very, very mentally well prepared and I think there are a lot of top-class players in that group.

"I think they will physically match New Zealand and I think they may cause a bit of a surprise on Saturday.

"I am calling an England vs South Africa final because no one else has," Quinlan said.
