Kilkenny legend Tommy Walsh joined Friday's Off the Ball to preview the 2018 Hurling Championship.
The Cats struggled last year losing to Waterford 4-23 to 2-22 after extra-time in the All-Ireland qualifiers and failed to make at least the quarter-finals for the first time since 1999.
Asked about the feeling in the county ahead of the up-coming campaign, Walsh told Ger Gilroy: "It's excitement Ger, it's excitement because we had all them players retire over the last number of years. We've had a few guys that were on and off the team over the last number of years - they retired during the winter.
"It came out during the week but they actually retired last October/November so it's all new players. It's all guys who won the minor All-Ireland three or four years ago. It's all guys that were on the under-21 team last year. They're the lads coming through now so it's kind of 'let's get out and see them.'
"The likes of Richie Leahy, the likes of my own namesake, Tommy Walsh, from my place as well there in Tullaroan - exciting guys that we've only seen glimpses of because there was guys with so many All-Ireland's that were on the team.
"Now it's the new lads coming in and Brian Cody is going to have to give them their chance and he will do it.
"The word going around Kilkenny is "excitement" - we're looking forward to it. We're not talking about winning All-Ireland's - we have as much a chance as everyone else to win the All-Ireland but the whole thing is - we just want to get out and see the players."
