Noel McGrath overlooked for Hurler of the Year as Tipp lead All-Star nominees

All Ireland champions Tipperary have been rewarded with 11 nominations for the 2019 PwC All-Star Hurling Team of the Year.

Tipp forward Seamus Callanan has been nominated for Player of the Year alongside Kilkenny's prolific TJ Reid, and Cork's Patrick Horgan. However, there's no room on that three-man shortlist for All Ireland Final man of the match, Noel McGrath.

Kyle Hayes will be hoping to secure back-to-back Young Player of the Year awards, as he's nominated alongside Kilkenny forward Adrian Mullen and Wexford's Rory O'Connor. No-one's won back-to-back Young Hurler awards since Tipperary's Eoin Kelly did just that in 2001 and 2002.

A tumultuous Championship year means only six of last year's 45 All-Star nominees get the nod this time around.

All Ireland finalists Kilkenny receive nine nominations. Wexford have eight.

And Laois' Joe McDonagh Cup win and run to the All Ireland quarter-finals sees goalkeeper Enda Rowland and defender Jack Kelly receive nominations.

The All-Star hurling team of the year will be decided later this month, with the players honoured at a banquet in Dublin on Friday November 1st.

Patrick Horgan (Cork)
