Limerick dominate All Star shortlist but Player of the Year a 3-way split

As expected, All Ireland champions Limerick dominate this year's PwC Hurling All-Star shortlist.

John Kiely's side have been rewarded with 14 names on the 45-man list.

Beaten All Ireland finalists Waterford are represented by 10 players. And one of those has been shortlisted for Hurler of the Year.

Deise sharpshooter Stephen Bennett is shortlisted alongside Limerick's Gearoid Hegarty, and Clare supremo Tony Kelly.

The PwC GAA/GPA Young Hurler of the Year shortlist is also split between three different counties, although none hail from Limerick.

Waterford wing-back Iarlaith Daly makes the cut, as does Kilkenny forward Eoin Cody and Tipperary forward Jake Morris.

In all, there are eight counties represented on the 45-man All Star shortlist.

There are seven Galway hurlers named with five from Kilkenny, and two from Cork and two from Tipperary.

GAA President John Horan said, "Sport was one of the few unforgettable elements to an otherwise forgettable 2020 and yet again the hurling campaign was a highlight.

"The PwC All-Stars provide an opportunity to salute the stand-out performers who lit up the campaign and gave so much excitement and I congratulate all of those who have been nominated and it is a big day for them and their clubs."

The presentation of the All-Stars will take place in a COVID-appropriate television ceremony in February.
