Kilkenny to allow UPMC Nowlan Park be used for COVID-19 testing

Kilkenny GAA have confirmed they will allow their UPMC Nowlan Park ground be used as a centre for coronavirus testing.

The decision comes following a request from the HSE, which Kilkenny say they're happy to facilitate.

Locals being tested for the virus will avail of a drive-thru facility similar to that seen at Croke Park in recent days.

In figures released by the HSE on Wednesday, the county of Kilkenny has reported fewer than 5 coronavirus cases. Neighbouring has seen 7 cases, while Carlow and Tipperary each have fewer than 5.

However, those numbers are set to jump significantly in what An Taoiseach Leo Varadkar referred to in his St. Patrick's night address to the country as "the surge".

Cork GAA have also made Páirc Uí Chaoimh available as a centre for COVID-19 testing.

The ongoing halt to GAA activity has also led to serious disruption of the Kilkenny club championships.

They've become the latest county to confirm a full suspension of games at adult and juvenile level for - what they say is - the foreseeable future.

Two rounds of the hurling league/Championship scheduled for April 4/5, and April 18/19 have been postponed.

That could lead to - they say - a restructuring of the county's league/Championship when they resume.

Both county board meeting scheduled for April have also been postponed.

Kilkenny GAA have also asked, "all Club Officials, Team Managers and Players are reminded that it is essential that they adhere to HSE guidelines in relation to the COVID-19 Pandemic."
