If advances are to be made in how we broadcast Gaelic football and hurling, Jamie Wall believes a radical overhaul may be necessary.
"In general, the way we cover the games in the GAA is just quite poor," Jamie Wall surmised on Monday's OTB AM.
Considering the possibility that Gaelic football may soon go the way of its hurling equivalent in terms of adopting a tiered championship structure, Wall acknowledged the reservations of those within the football community who fear that such a step would impact negatively upon the attention they are afforded.
Citing the manner in which the Joe McDonagh Cup, the second of five tiers in championship hurling, currently receives little or no coverage of any kind, the Cork native appreciates that wholesale change may be required to achieve a sense of parity.
"You know, Sky Sports made a phenomenon out of darts," Wall outlined, "and not to insult any darts fans, but hurling and Gaelic football are vastly superior games.
"We're currently making a balls of how we cover them."
Raising concerns regarding Ireland's primary GAA broadcaster RTE and their showpiece The Sunday Game, Jamie Wall dictated the changes he would like to see made in the hope of broadening the scope of games covered.
"On the first 40-minutes of The Sunday Game last night we showed highlights of games we'd already seen," he said, "and talked about them for as equally as long a period of time.
"Personally, I feel the model used on The Sunday Game is out-dated.
"You're trying to cram so much in and as the summer goes on it almost starts to get worse.
"We're getting extended highlights and analysis of games we've already seen. It just seems pointless to me.
"I think they should bin the analysis on The Sunday Game and show as many highlights as you possibly can like Match of the Day.
"You can then pick a featured game from each sport and do them on a Monday night."
While such changes would unquestionably suit a sizeable proportion of those tuning in on a Sunday night, it did not go unmentioned that a number of viewers come to watch The Sunday Game without having seen the afternoon's biggest games in their entirety.
