GAA has "no plans" to redevelop Croke Park's Cusack Stand

The GAA say they've no immediate plans to redevelop and expand the Cusack Stand at Croke Park.

Reports this morning suggested that a €35-million loan from the European Investment Bank would be used to help fund a revamp of the stand, which is 26 years old.

While the Association has confirmed that their loan application to the EIB has been successful, they've announced that work won't be taking place on the Cusack Stand in the near future, stressing their focus is on getting games back up and running when safe to do so.

"Contrary to recent media reports we would like to clarify that the GAA has no plans to proceed with the refurbishment or expansion of the Cusack Stand at Croke Park," the GAA's Director General Tom Ryan and President John Horan said in a joint statement this evening.

"In 2019 the stadium team explored the need to upgrade a stand that was opened in 1994 and part of that exercise was to establish possible funding streams for any such project.

"A long-standing application to the European Investment Bank concluded successfully last week and was subsequently reported in the media but these reports failed to indicate that the GAA had in fact already suspended any such plans at the outset of the pandemic."
