'I'm happy with what we've got' - Diarmuid Connolly ruled out of Kenny's plans

As rumours continue to circulate regarding Diarmuid Connolly's future in Jim Gavin's plans, Dublin hurling boss Mattie Kenny has insisted that he isn't planning a coup for the services of St Vincent's man.

Succumbing to a 6-point defeat to his native Galway in Pearse Stadium this afternoon, the former Cuala boss was asked whether he would be trying his hand to recruit Connolly, and whether the multiple All-Ireland winner with Dublin's footballers had ever been on his radar.

"No, he wasn't," Kenny admitted frankly.

"I haven't spoke to Diarmuid, no, the answer is that I haven't spoken to him."

Absent during Dublin's run to a fourth-successive All-Ireland triumph last year, it has been expected that Connolly will make a return at some stage or other.

However, with Jim Gavin remaining tight-lipped over Connolly's future in his football panel, Kenny insists that he is happy with the squad of players he has already assembled.

"I'm quite happy with the squad I have," Kenny stated.

"We have a lot of talent and quality in our squad, so we've picked our squad for the league and this is what we're moving on with."

In his first year managing Dublin at inter-county level, Mattie Kenny had previously led the Dublin club Cuala to the county's first All-Ireland club title; an achievement he soon replicated in his successful spell with the club.
