Hearn teases Fury-Whyte as Povetkin hospitalised with COVID-19

The scheduled rematch between heavyweights Dillian Whyte and Alexander Povetkin is off after the latter was hospitalised with COVID-19.

The pair were due to meet at Wembley Arena on November 21.

Povetkin caused a sizeable upset in August when he knocked Whyte out five rounds into their twelve-round contest at Fight Camp.

Promoter Eddie Hearn confirmed the news of the Russian's hospitalisation on Tuesday afternoon, saying the fight is to be rescheduled with a target date of January 30 2021.

The Matchroom chief chummed the waters still further, tweeting: "Dillian Whyte v Tyson Fury anyone?"

Fury hasn't fought since February's stoppage of Deontay Wilder. While a pair of fights with Anthony Joshua are on the horizon, the WBC champion has been called out by the 'Bronze Bomber' in recent days.

Carlos Takam had been lined up as a potential opponent for Fury in December, although nothing on that front has been confirmed.

Takam lost to both Joshua and Dereck Chisora in a nine-month span between 2017 and '18, but has won each of his last four fights.

There's no doubting, however, that a Fury-Whyte, all-English affair, would be an easier sell to a boxing public starved of big fights due to the pandemic.
