Ole Gunnar Solskjaer gives Harry Maguire injury update ahead of run-in

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has said he is 'positive' about Harry Maguire's injury after a turbulent week for the club.

Maguire was injured in Sunday's match with Aston Villa, with a scan revealing that he had damaged ankle ligaments in a coming-together with Anwar El-Ghazi.

United have since lost two home games against Leicester City and Liverpool, and are gearing up for a Europa League final against Villarreal in Gdansk.

“He is making progress, but we have consciously taken the route of not testing him out too early, too quickly, because we don’t want to aggravate something," said Solskjaer.

“Harry is very – how do you say? - he wants this so much, so he doesn't want to take any risks either. When I spoke to him this morning, he was quite positive, which is good.

“But, naturally, the day after it happened we were all down. But we saw early on or decided we have to focus, have to be positive and think that you are going to make it until you have to say 'no'. I've always been an optimist, so we're positive."

Solskjaer hopes that he can get news on Harry Maguire's injury as soon as possible so plans can be made for the final.

"Hopefully we can have good news early, I’ll give it as long as it takes, he’s shown his importance, we’ve known it all along, maybe some people open their eyes more when he’s not playing," he said.

"I became a very good player when I was injured and people suddenly realised what I could do as a sub or playing.

"Harry is our leader, he's been more or less ever-present, he’s a big miss, hopefully, he’ll speed up his recovery and be available for the final. I’ll give him as long as he needs to say yes or no."
